![]() ![]() It’s lower in elevation, so when the snow isn’t quite melted in Banff yet, you can head to this part of Alberta. Kananaskis Country is a provincial park right next to Banff National Park. It’s best to break it up with a beer in Banff or Canmore before heading back! 35 Best Canmore and Banff Bike Trails If you have your own bike, that’s ideal, but you can also rent bikes for the day at Rebound Cycle in Canmore or Banff Cycle in Banff.Įxpect the trail to take a little over 2 hours on a road bike and 4 hours on a mountain bike round trip (Banff to Canmore and back). I bike the Legacy Trail a few times a week and love the challenge and workout. It’s one of the best things to do in Banff in June as the trail is snow-free. The Legacy Trail is a 27 km paved trail that runs between Banff and Canmore and is an excellent way to get active and take in the views. There’s still quite a bit of snow lingering about. Scrambles like the Tower of Babel are also safe and good to go by Mid June, though you’ll have to wait for the high summits like Effiel Peak and Mount Temple. Once Moraine Lake Lodge opens up, you’ll be able to rent a canoe and paddle around the beautiful lake. A fun thing to do is combine Lake Louise with Moraine Lake for the day! 30 AWESOME Things to do in Lake Louise in Summer Or you can always bring your own as well. It’s possible to rent a canoe at Lake Louise now and hit up the water. ![]() You’ll probably still be able to get parking at Lake Louise without all the hassle of arriving at the crack of dawn too. I love visiting Lake Louise in June because it’s summer, the weather is terrific, the water is Kool-Aid blue, and the crowds aren’t at their peak…yet. Although attempting summits like Devils Thumb, Mount Niblock, Fairview Summit, and Mount Whyte will need a few more weeks. Hiking to the Fairview Lookout, Lake Agnes Teahouse, and even the Beehives is attainable now as the snow has melted in many higher elevation places. Visit Lake Louise in June, and the water will be so blue your eyes may hurt! It's also calving season for elk, and you may also be lucky enough to see bighorn sheep lambs or mountain goat kids.Lake Louise should be completely thawed by early June unless it’s been exceptionally cold. I think one of the biggest advantages of coming in May or early June is wildlife sighting - with the high country still snowbound, all the critters are concentrated in the valleys, so more likely to be seen by visitors along the roadsides. June is, statistically, the rainiest month of the year (although for Jasper, the rainfall stats for July are almost identical). Things are also open (and ice off the lakes!) by mid-June, and as I mentioned earlier, since it is not yet peak season, accommodation prices tend to be cheaper. (But if you go to either of the Jasper grocery stores at 5 pm to pick up supplies, be prepared for line-ups to the back of the store!) September is also very popular - usually decent weather (but not as warm as July and August), not quite as busy as July and August, things are still open, and it's a great time of year for hiking, with no bugs and fall colours. Most people probably would consider July and August to be the "best" time, since that is when the weather is (usually) warmest and all the paid attractions are open. The "best" time is a really, really subjective thing and would depend on what you want out of a holiday - for instance, a skier might want to be here during a time of heavy snowfall, to experience skiing in the Canadian Rockies' famous dry powder snow. and do "touristy" things like the sno-coach tour on the Athabasca Glacier, boat cruises, gondola rides etc. You haven't given any specifics as to the types of experiences your friends have had that were so appealing, so I think all of us who have replied have done so from a very general sense, thinking about people wanting to visit the various well-known scenic attractions. ![]() Well, you didn't ask in your first post about the "best" time to come, you asked whether June was a "good" time! -) when the best time to visit would be rather than arriving there and wishing we had picked a different month ![]()
